August 1, 2011 Dear Vocati and Vocare supporters, Greetings from the Vocare International Steering Committee! First of all, we would like to thank all of you for your love and passion for the Vocare ministry over the past 33 years. Vocare is a transformative ministry for young adults; its effects can be seen throughout the Church. At the last spring’s Vocare International Conference in Arkansas, there was an open forum discussion with the Vocare community present about the future of the Vocare ministry. This forum called for a period of discernment and revisioning, and put forth ideas that the steering committee will use during that process. For the next year, the Vocare International Steering Committee will be working together to continue keeping Vocare relevant and strong. This work includes “re-visioning” of Vocare and it’s purpose, rewriting the bylaws, and taking another look at the structure of the weekend. Vocare will maintain its 501(c)(3) non-profit status as well as its corporate charter with the state of Tennessee. Over the next year the Episcopal Church Center Office for Young Adult and Campus Ministries will be helping the steering committee with the daily maintenance of Vocare. With their help, the steering committee will be able to fully focus on the future of the Vocare ministry and making Vocare better than ever. At the end of this year, the steering committee will re-evaluate its progress and make the appropriate next steps going forward. In addition to Episcopal Church Center staff support, we are also seeking a team of experienced Vocati from throughout the Church to provide personal support to current Vocare ministries. If you would like to be on this team, please get in touch with coordinator Liz Williams at

. All new and restarting Vocare ministries will continue to be in direct contact with the steering committee. For most of our Vocare communities, not much will change over the next year. Vocare International remains committed to providing diocesan Vocare ministries with support and guidance during this time of discernment and into the future. Dioceses are invited to continue using the Vocare Manual and “keep doing what you’re doing.” We will continue to update you as this process progresses. In the meantime, we have put together an online survey that offers another opportunity for the Vocati community to provide input to the steering committee. Please let us know if you have any questions about this process, or if you would like to be involved in any way. We are here to serve Vocare ministries throughout the church, and have high hopes for the outcome of this process. Many blessings, Lauren Caldwell President
